Richa Ghosh to miss New Zealand ODI series due to 12th board exams

Priya Mishra and Tejal Hasabnis were rewarded for their showing on Australia tour with the Indian A team

After a disappointing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, in which they failed to make it to the last four for the first time in the last four editions, India Women will face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series starting October 24th in Ahmedabad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 17 (Thursday) announced a 16-woman squad for the series. The team will still be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana will remain her deputy.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will miss the series due to her class 12th board exams, the BCCI press release informed. Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana, both part of the T20 World Cup 2024, have been rested. While Vastrakar has been given a break, Sobhana is nursing an injury that occurred just ahead of the Australia match.

All the matches of the series will be played in Ahmedabad. New Zealand, who are already in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup, beat India in the match which was the tournament opener for both sides.

India will be looking to get back at the Kiwis for that loss, which eventually led to the team’s ouster from the World Cup.

The squad includes Priya Mishra, who impressed on the Australia tour with her wily leg-spin. Apart from her Tejal Hasabnis, who too was with the Indian Women’s A team on the Australia tour and scored impressive half-centuries, has also received her maiden call-up.

India’s squad for the three ODI series against New Zealand

Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, D Hemalatha, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Uma Chetry (wk), Sayali Satgare, Arundhati Reddy, Renuka Singh Thakur, Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, Priya Mishra, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil.
