Harry Brook Loses No.1 Test Ranking After ONE WEEK Post Double Failure at Lord’s
Joe Root is once again the number one ranked Test batter
Harry Brook’s reign at the top of the batter’s rankings in Tests has ended in less than a week as he has been displaced by his teammate Joe Root, who has regained the top ranking following a century in the third Test against India at Lord’s.
Brook surged to the top following scores of 99 & 158 in the first two Tests of the series, but he endured two failures at Lord’s, perishing for 11 & 23. The second innings saw him get out in rather hideous fashion, getting his stumps rattled after a botched sweep attempt off Akash Deep.
Root now has a 26-point lead over Brook at the top. Kane Williamson and Steve Smith, meanwhile, are the second and fourth-ranked batters in the world, respectively. Yashasvi Jaiswal (5th), Rishabh Pant (8th) and Shubman Gill (9th) are the other Indians in the Top 10.
On the bowling side of things, Australia’s Scott Boland is the biggest mover, jumping six spots to 6th. Boland took a hat-trick in Australia’s record-breaking demolition of the Windies, and finished with match figures of 6/36. West Indies’ Shamar Joseph has also jumped 15 spots to move to 14th in the bowlers’ rankings. There is no change in the top five, with India’s Jasprit Bumrah still the top-ranked bowler.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins, meanwhile, has moved one spot to 4th in the all-rounders’ rankings. Ravindra Jadeja is the top-ranked all-rounder, while Ben Stokes finds himself at sixth spot.
