Mitchell Santner, captain of the New Zealand team and also a former teammate of Rachin Ravindra, praised the latter for scoring a century and leading New Zealand to an easy win over Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 (CT 2025) on February 24 (Monday).
Courtesy of this win, New Zealand made their way to the last four of yet another ICC event.
Reacting to Ravindra’s hundred, who now holds the record for most hundreds by a New Zealand batter in ICC ODI events, Santner said, “Rachin loves ICC events. It seemed he never left the game. The partnership with Tom set us up.”
Santner also praised Michael Bracewell, who finished with figures of 4/26 in his 10 overs. “Bracewell is a quality bowler. He changed his pace. The key was to pick wickets in the middle overs,” Santner said.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, captain of the Bangladesh unit, blamed it on the batters and said that they would look to put up a great show in their last match of the tournament, which will be against Pakistan.
“In the last two years, the bowling unit has done well. I think the game vs Pakistan is an important game. It would be good to finish on a high,” Shanto said.
Bracewell, who finished with the best figures by a New Zealand spinner in Champions Trophy history, said, “It was about keeping the stumps in play and bowling straight, not making it easy for them to score. There was some help on the surface, but you don’t have any real control once the ball has left your hand.”
