Head ruled out of final Sri Lanka ODI with hamstring injury

Australia are sweating over the fitness of Head ahead of the Test series

While Australia have already conceded the five-match ODI series to the hosts, Sri Lanka 3-1, Travis Head’s injury might leave the visitors sweating. The left-hander is a crucial component of the Kangaroos’ setup in the longest format and his absence could leave the visitors paper-thin in the middle-order with the bat.

The southpaw sustained a low-grade hamstring injury during the fielding in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka. Australian skipper, Aaron Finch confirmed the news while stating that he isn’t too sure if the left-hander would be available for the Test series.

"It's a bit more of a precaution, especially with where he fields," Aaron Finch said in the presser ahead of the final ODI.

“He fields in the outfield and the ground is quite heavy and he does a lot of Ks. I'm not sure what he'll be like for the Tests but he's definitely not available for tomorrow," he added.

In case the left-hander does not recover in time, Australia could ponder roping in either of Marcus Harris, Matthew Renshaw and Nic Maddinson, who are currently with the A team. Mitchell Starc (finger) and Smith (quad niggle) will continue to miss the ODIs, giving the red-ball format a priority.
