Here to play in the IPL, not to take abuse from anyone: Naveen-ul-Haq

The Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler was involved in a heated argument with Royal Challengers Bangalore during a low-scoring thriller in Lucknow

The game between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday (May 1) ended in controversial circumstances as players from both teams got involved in a war of words and needed other players and a few officials to separate them.

One of them was Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq who was first involved in a heated argument with Virat Kohli during the game and then later on, when the two shook hands after the game. Naveen was unhappy with whatever was said and seemed to have pushed Kohli's hands away. Kohli then got into a heated argument with LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir - not for the first time in the IPL.

As a result, Kohli and Gambhir were fined 100% of their match-fee while Naveen was charged 50%.

“I have come here to play in the IPL, not to take abuse from anyone,” Naveen is believed to have told an LSG teammate after the on-field altercation, according to Indian Express

Later, he posted a cryptic message on social media that read, “You get what you deserve. That’s how it should be and that’s how it goes."

This is not the first time Naveel has been involved in a scuffle on field. During PSL 2020, he had a heated argument with Shahid Afridi.

Set a target of 127, RCB went on to win by 18 runs to go level with four other teams on 10 points in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 table.
