Hong Kong Sixes, ILT20, Now BBL: Ravichandran Ashwin Gears Up For Busy Calendar
The 39-year-old has already attracted interest from multiple BBL franchises
Former Indian spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is set to expand his post-retirement journey in franchise cricket. After registering for the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025-26 auction and confirming his participation in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, Ashwin is now also likely to feature in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26, according to a report by Cricbuzz on September 23 (Tuesday).
The 39-year-old has already attracted interest from multiple BBL franchises, including Sydney Sixers, Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, and Adelaide Strikers. Earlier this year, Ashwin announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), making him eligible for overseas T20 leagues.
Managing his schedule, however, could prove tricky. The ILT20 will run from December 2 to January 4, while the BBL is scheduled between December 14 and January 25.
“As things stand, Ashwin will start with the ILT20 and then fly to Australia for the BBL, where his availability will be limited this year. Ashwin did not comment on the BBL developments, but indications are that something will be finalised in a few days,” Vijay Tagore reported for Cricbuzz.
Beyond these commitments, Ashwin could also explore stints in other overseas leagues. “As for other overseas leagues, Ashwin is likely to feature in either Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA or The Hundred in the UK. There is, of course, still time to complete the formalities for those tournaments,” the report added.
Ashwin remains India’s second-highest wicket-taker in international cricket after Anil Kumble. He boasts 317 wickets in 333 T20 matches at an economy rate of 7.11.
