I sometimes regret having played cricket: Mohammad Azharuddin
The former India captain is in trouble after naming a stand after himself during his stint as HCA president
Following the controversy over his stand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin said that he sometimes regrets playing cricket.
Following a complaint by the Lord's Cricket Club, a local entity, which argued that Azaruddin made wrong use of his powers during his time as president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), where he took the decision to name the North Pavillion Stand of the stadium after himself, which amounts to conflict of interest, according to a report on Cricbuzz.
As a result, the HCA has received a formal order by Justice V Eswaraiah, who serves as the Ethics Officer and Ombudsman for the HCA, to erase Azharuddin's name from the stand.
"It pains me deeply to say this, but I sometimes regret having played cricket. It’s heartbreaking to see individuals with little to no understanding of the game now in positions to teach and lead. It's a complete disgrace to the sport," Azharuddin was quoted as saying by Gulf News.
The former skipper has requested the BCCI to intervene in this matter.
"I am determined to pursue legal action against this injustice, and I urge the BCCI to intervene and take appropriate action. This issue isn’t isolated — Sunrisers Hyderabad also had a dispute with the association over passes, highlighting a pattern of conflict and poor governance," he added.
