I think we are all in awe of what we have seen - Adam Voges

LSG’s consultant also opined about the extreme difference between the two batting powerplays in the game, as SRH scored 80 more runs than LSG in the first six overs

When Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down 166 on May 8 (Wednesday) with 62 deliveries left in the game, records were broken left, right and centre. No 150+ total in T20 history has been chased quicker, and that was bound to shock fans and experts alike.

SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma insinuated a carnage that saw 14 sixes and 16 fours being scored in just 58 deliveries, and both the southpaws ended the game with strike rates well north of 250 and ensured a historic 10-wicket victory for the men in orange.

Speaking to the media contingent post the game, Lucknow Super Giants’ consultant Adam Voges dwelled on the incredulity of this feat in a similar manner to KL Rahul, who said that he was “lost for words.”

“I think we all are in awe a little bit of what we've just seen. Sometimes, you've to tip your hat and say well played to the opposition. I think they might have mishit one or two balls in the nine and a bit overs that we bowled at them. That was incredible batting and hitting. We clearly didn't have an answer.”

The difference between the two sides was visible in their approach to the game itself, as LSG managed to scrap through to 27/2 at the end of their powerplay. Meanwhile, SRH scored 107/0 in the first six overs and effectively ceased any chances of an LSG comeback in the game, as only 59 runs were required in the remaining 96 deliveries. As it turned out, SRH just needed roughly a fourth of those deliveries to polish off the remaining total.

“What do you say, 2 for 20 odd as opposed to 100 for none, and that's the game in itself. We were put under immense pressure with the ball right from the start, we weren't able to apply the same pressure with the bat to begin with,” Voges said, comparing the batting powerplays of both the sides.

“I haven't spoken to the guys yet about whether there was a difference in terms of the innings, but clearly, our powerplay compared to Sunrisers was at the two extremes.”

Voges praised Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran’s 99-run partnership that allowed the team to score 165 in their full quota but felt that they were still short of a competitive score by a big margin.

“I thought our backend of the innings was really good. Badoni and Pooran's partnership got us to [165]. It was probably still under par total, but it gave us a fighting chance at least. But that obviously was clearly not enough.”

With a big loss in the game, LSG’s qualification chances are in jeopardy as the net run rate took a big hit and is currently -0.769, with the team in the 6th place on the points table.
