Two months ago, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in T20 history in IPL 2025, where he smashed the second-fastest ton in the competition’s history against Gujarat Titans (GT). And on July 5 (Saturday), the 14-year-old broke yet another world record as he smashed the fastest hundred in Youth ODIs, hammering a 52-ball ton against England U19.
However, the teenager is far from done. His record-feasting has just begun, and he’s now eyeing a double-century in the next game, which will be played on July 7 (Monday) in Worcester.
“I will try to score 200 next time. I’ll try to play all 50 overs because the more runs I score, the more my team will benefit," Suryavanshi said in a video posted by BCCI.
The youngster revealed how he took inspiration from the knock of Test captain Shubman Gill, who scripted history with a 269 in the first innings at Edgbaston, the highest ever score by an Indian captain ever. Suryavanshi further insisted that he had no idea that he had broken the record for the fastest YODI century.
“I didn’t know I had made a record. Team manager Ankit sir told me that I have… I was very inspired by him [Shubman Gill] because I saw the game," he said.
“Even after scoring 100 and 200, he kept at it and took the game forward. So, I also had it in mind that I could have batted for longer because there was a lot of time, 20 overs were left. I could have extended my innings but there was a shot that I couldn’t connect 100% which is why I got out; otherwise, I would have tried to bat as long as him."
As it stands, no batter has ever smashed a double ton in a Youth ODI.
