Cometh the hour, Cometh Mitchell Santner, who bowled one brute of a delivery to remove the dangerous-looking Rassie van der Dussen for a 66-ball 69 in the second semi-final. The left-arm spinner, who is one of the best spinners in the tournament, single-handedly had a say in the semi-final.
Santner first broke the all-important partnership by dismissing Temba Bavuma, with the score reading 125/2. Just as the 36-run partnership was brewing and looking dangerous, it was Santner again with the all-important wicket, bamboozling van der Dussen with a ‘Ball of the Tournament’ candidate.
The left-arm spinner first drew the right-handed batter forward before the ball turned sharply the bat to disturb the timber. All that van der Dussen could do was turn around and look at the stumps being all around.
Minutes later, Santner proved why he’s around as one of the best white-ball spinners, removing the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen to register a crucial three-wicket haul against South Africa in the semi-final.
