Rohit Sharma has been utilised by Mumbai Indians (MI) as an Impact Player for the best part of IPL 2025, however, the franchise’s former skipper continues to be a non-factor at the top of the order for the five-time champions.
After missing the previous clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) due to a knock, Rohit came back into the XI for today’s big game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He was one of two major changes for MI, with the returning Jasprit Bumrah being the other.
However, while Bumrah showed his class, going at 7.20 RPO in an innings where RCB scored 221, Rohit continued to disappoint. The right-hander hit three boundaries away early on but got clean bowled by Yash Dayal in the second over of the match to depart for 17 off 9 balls. Mumbai needed Rohit to kick-on and score big in a chase of 222, or at least bat through the powerplay, but the former skipper managed to do neither.
Rohit has scored just 158 runs at an average of 14.36 and strike rate of 125.4 across his last 11 innings in the IPL. He has crossed the 20-run mark just once in this period, and is yet to breach the 20-run mark this season in four attempts.
