IND vs ENG: Jofra Archer Returns After FOUR YEARS As England Name Squad For Second Test
Archer last played a Test in February 2021, incidentally against India
In what’s arguably the most significant development in English cricket in recent times, Jofra Archer returns to the Three Lions’ Test set-up for the first time in four years.
Earlier this week, Archer made his return to red-ball cricket with Sussex in the County Championship clash against Durham and got a solid workload under his belt, registering figures of 18-8-32-1.
Satisfied with his fitness and rhythm, England have wasted no time in adding him to the squad as the tearaway quick has been called for the secon-up for the second Test against India at Edgbaston. Archer last played a Test in February 2021, incidentally against India.
Archer is one of six pacers in the England squad for the second Test, with the others being Sam Cook, Chris Woakes, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue. It remains to be seen, however, if Archer will directly be drafted into the XI, considering both Carse and Tongue performed well in Leeds. Replacing Archer with Woakes will slightly affect the balance of the side, since the latter is a much better batter.

There are no other changes in England’s squad. RCB’s Jacob Bethell has once again been picked while speedster Gus Atkinson, who is nursing an injury, continues to miss out.
