India already have the services of Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep as their frontline pace options. Added to this, they also have Shardul Thakur, who did well in the intra-squad match recently. However, with Bumrah likely to play in just three of the five Tests against England, India might be tempted to add another pacer to their squad as cover.
According to a report on RevSportz, Harshit Rana, who was part of India A, could be added to the squad for the Test series as he has been asked to stay back with the main squad. Rana is believed to have a good rapport with head coach Gautam Gambhir. The duo worked together at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where Gambhir was the mentor. The 23-year-old pacer made his Test debut in Australia last year, but was not named in the squad for the England Tests.
He has since gone on to play five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and one T20 International (T20I) as well.
India will reach Leeds, the venue for the first Test, on June 17 (Tuesday), where they will be joined by Gambhir, who had flown home due to a family emergency. The first Test will be played on June 20 (Friday), marking Shubman Gill's first series as captain.
