Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s latest recruit Jacob Bethell scripted history at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 6 (Thursday), in the first ODI against India, becoming the youngest ever Englishman to post an ODI fifty in India.
The record was previously held by Joe Root, who in 2013 was 22 years and 24 days old when he got to his fifty in Mohali. Bethell shattered Root’s record by getting to the milestone at 21 years and 106 days.

22 years 24 days - Joe Root
22 years 298 days - Sam Curran
This was Bethell’s second fifty in ODIs. His first came against West Indies in North Sound, where he smashed 55 off 57 balls batting at No.4.
Bethell batted at No.6 today and did his part in rescuing England’s innings. The Three Lions were in all sorts when the left-hander walked in at 111/4, but he then strung together a 59-run stand with skipper Jos Buttler to help the visitors steady the ship.
Bethell, 21, is already the youngest ever Englishman to score a fifty in T20I cricket. He was purchased by RCB for ₹2.60 Cr at the mega auction.
