Spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has been added to India’s squad for the final two Tests against New Zealand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced after Rohit Sharma and Co. lost the opening Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets on October 20 (Sunday).
The 25-year-old played the last of his four Tests in March 2021. The left-handed batter has 265 runs across six innings at an average of 66.25, studded with three fifties. With the ball, the offspinner has managed six wickets @ 49.83.
Washington is currently playing for Tamil Nadu in the second round of the Ranji Trophy. Batting at No.3, the left-hander slammed 152 off 269 deliveries against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Overall, the all-rounder has 1246 runs in 30 first-class games @ 30.39 and 59 wickets @ 31.47.
India were bowled out for just 46 runs in the first innings. The hosts did put up a superb fight in their second innings but the damage was done by then. The second Test will be played in Pune from October 24, while the Mumbai Test will start on November 1.
