Rain delayed the start of the second ODI between England and India at Lord’s; however, the rain subsided, and a 29-over contest is set to take place at the iconic ground. It’s great news for the fans, as 18,000 tickets were sold for this game at Lord’s.
Meanwhile, England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss and had no qualms about choosing to bowl first on a pitch that had been under covers for a long time, with the overcast skies above the ground.
The home side also made as many as three changes to their lineup, taking out Alice Davidson-Richards, Kate Cross and Lauren Filer, while bringing in Maia Bouchier, Em Arlott and Linsey Smith. As a result, they will now go in with a much longer batting lineup in the game, with Charlie Dean batting as low as number 10 in this game.
The Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the challenge to bat first on a covered pitch as Indiai lost the seventh toss in a row on this tour. She said that they would look to be careful in the first 10 overs. India made just one change, resting Amanjot Kaur and bringing in Arundhati Reddy for this game.
Due to the shortened game, the playing conditions have also changed. The powerplay will be of only six overs, with four bowlers allowed to bowl six overs, and one bowler bowling five.
Additionally, Simon Doull stated in the pitch report that the outfield looks brilliant, and it is hard to believe that there was so much rain until about half an hour ago. He reckoned that the pitch is nice and hard and there will be purchase for the seamers, but it will stay true.
