India have taken the field on day three of the Sydney Test without their captain Jasprit Bumrah. On day two, Bumrah left the field to undergo scans after suffering back spasms. He came out to bat for India but did not trouble the scorers as he was cleaned up by Scott Boland for a three-ball duck.
There is no update from the BCCI on whether Bumrah will take any part in the game. He was warming up ahead of the day's play and seen having a chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir. Virat Kohli is leading the side in his absence.
Bumrah has bowled 151.2 overs overs in the series, the most after Pat Cummins (167) and Mitchell Starc (153.2). He is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 32 scalps at 13.06.
Under Bumrah, India won the first Test in Perth. He took charge of the side in Sydney after Rohit Sharma decided to stand down following a dry run with the bat. A win for Australia in Sydney will see them win their first Test series against India in 10 years.
