With a big day of batting expected to come on Thursday, here is a look into the possible things we can expect.
For the last four years, Day 2 has been the best day to bat in Manchester. It is the only venue to have 4+ run rate and 50+ batting average at a venue in England in last 5 years on the second day. It is going to be important for India to utilize the good start on Day 1 and post a big total. Going by past trends, expect India to post anywhere between 400 and 450, even without Pant.
Ben Duckett has been spectacular in Tests since 2022, scoring at an outstanding rate. His record on Day 2 specifically has been the best as he has scored 858 runs at a superb average of 57.2 which is his personal best across the five days. With his batting being quiet in Birmingham and Lord's, it will be important for Duckett to get a big score at Old Trafford.
Mohammed Siraj has a terrific record against England in the second innings of Tests. The express pacer has taken 24 of his 40 wickets against England in this innings. He has four 4+ wicket hauls, maintaining a super average of 23.7. It will be interesting see how he is going to deliver on Day 2 as it is expected to be an excellent day for batting.
