In a rather controversial-free series, the fourth T20I set tempers flare between the two sides. It was evident in the lead-up to the Wankhede T20I all the talks were about how Harshit Rana was a like-for-like replacement for Shivam Dube.
It dripped in for the fifth T20I as well, when Jos Buttler, after winning the toss, stated his four ‘impact options’, triggering the fans. However, what wasn’t a surprise was that Buttler’s England were going to chase at the Wankhede run-scoring carpet.
The two sides make a change each, with Mohammed Shami walking into the setup at the expense of Arshdeep Singh while England get back Mark Wood into the XI. Saqib Mahmood, who did well in the fourth T20I, is unfortunate to sit out.
India playing XI
Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Dhruv Jurel, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy, Mohammed Shami
England playing XI
Philip Salt(w), Ben Duckett, Jos Buttler(c), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood
England’s captain, Buttler: We played some good cricket in patches. We should have executed it better, though. Need to grab the special moments in the game. There's a good vibe in the team, it's a good venue and it's a great crowd. It's a good wicket, Mark Wood comes back in. Both teams are high-octane. We have four impact subs in our team.
India’s captain, Suryakumar: We wanted to bat first, it looks a good wicket. I am hoping there won't be much dew. It's going to be a full-packed stadium tonight. We want the boys taking that responsibility, that's what we demand and that's what they are doing. You will sometimes fail, especially when playing that high-risk, high-reward game. Shami comes back in for Arshdeep Singh.
The fifth T20I between India and England will be shown on Star Sports 1 (English), Star Sports 1 Hindi, and Hotstar (digital).
