Jofra Archer has been named in England’s Test playing XI after 1596 days. The right-arm paceman is set to feature in the third Test against India at Lord’s, starting on July 10 (Thursday).
Archer played a first-class game for Sussex ahead of the second Test and bowled 18 overs, picking up one wicket. He was included in the squad for the Edgbaston Test, but England decided to stick with the same XI.
And that’s exactly what has happened with Gus Atkinson. The tearaway quick, who has recovered from a hamstring injury, was added to the England set-up after the second Test but will probably have to wait until the fourth Test to get a game.
Josh Tongue is the one to miss out despite being the leading wicket-taker in the series so far. The right-arm pacer has taken 11 wickets in two Tests at an average of 33.64.
Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse retain their spots, and so does offspinner Shoaib Bashir. England have gone with the same batting line-up, meaning no Jacob Bethell once again.
England chased down 371 in the first Test but lost the second match by a record margin of 336 runs.
