One of the most bizarre streaks in cricket has come to an end as Team India have FINALLY won a toss in an ODI match after 20 unsuccessful coin tosses in a row.
Remarkably, before today, India’s last toss win in an ODI came all the way back on November 15, 2023, in the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup against New Zealand. But the duck has been broken in the decider of the ongoing three-match ODI series against the Proteas, and India will be chasing in the third ODI after being asked to bat first in the first two.
And the hosts have opted to make one change, dropping Washington Sundar to accommodate Tilak Varma. Sundar’s axing comes on the back of him having two disappointing showings with the bat in hand - 13 off 19 and 1 off 8 - while sending down just seven overs across the first two games.
Speedster Prasidh Krishna retains his place despite a horror first two ODIs, where he conceded 133 runs in 15.4 overs and went at over 10.00 in the second ODI where the tourists chased down 359.
South Africa, meanwhile, have made two changes, bringing in Ottneil Baartman and Ryan Rickelton for the injured duo Nandre Burger and Tony de Zorzi.
March 2023 was the last time India lost a bilateral ODI series at home.
