India winning the World Cup is just a matter of time: Jhulan Goswami
The India fast bowler is the all-time leading wicket-taker in World Cups
It was a case of so near yet so far for India pacer Jhulan Goswami, who was within touching distance of winning the World Cup in 2017, only to fall short at the final hurdle against England. However, India failed to impress in the recently-concluded World Cup, where a loss to South Africa in the final group stage match saw them crash out of the tournament.
Jhulan however believes with the new set of players coming up, it will just be a matter of time before India lift the World Cup.
"I still have not got over the hangover from the World Cup. We deserved a better result," Jhulan said as reported by TOI.
"I am happy to see the new crop of cricketers and am certain that winning the World Cup is just a matter of time," she said.
"These girls are so dynamic, flamboyant and aggressive. They are ready to cross any boundaries and I see a bright future for Indian women's cricket," she added.
Jhulan, the leading wicket-taker in Women's ODIs reckons that the next generation of cricketers are maturing as they are getting the opportunity to play in tournaments outside India and rubbing shoulders with some of the best in the world.
"Many of them are now playing in the Women's Big Bash League, The Hundreds and other overseas leagues. That's making them so confident. In the team meetings, I have noticed that they are not daunted by opposition," she said.
Deepti Sharma bowled a no-ball in the penultimate delivery of the match against South Africa in the World Cup that saw India's hopes of progressing to the semi-final taken away from them. Jhulan says that it is part and parcel of the game and we need to move on.
"That's sports. It can make you a hero one day and pull you down the other day. I myself went through the same experience of bowling a no-ball in the last delivery of a must-win second ODI against Australia last year. It's heart-breaking, but we have to accept and live with that," she stated.
