The Indian women’s cricket team, selected for the ODI World Cup 2025, will take part in a week-long training program at the ACA-VDCA YSR Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam from August 25.
The location of the training and conditioning camp is strategic in the sense that the venue will host two of India’s most important games, against South Africa (October 9) and Australia (October 12), in the World Cup.
The training, which was scheduled to take place in Bengaluru, had to be moved out after the matches from Bengaluru were shifted to Navi Mumbai in the wake of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failing to get due clearances to host the games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The stadium remains closed after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) title-winning celebration stampede led to several deaths at the site.
The choice of Visakhapatnam is also important because, apart from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and veteran bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana, none of the squad members have the experience of playing at the ground in that city.
After the seven-day camp, which will culminate with two intra-squad day-night matches between the members of the India Women's team, India Women's A team and players on the reserve list of the World Cup squad.
After the end of the camp, the India Women will travel to New Chandigarh, where they will play a three-match ODI series against Australia Women.
