India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav heaped heavy praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the 14-year-old smashed the second-fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on April 28 (Monday).
Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the left-handed opener smoked 101 off 38 deliveries and helped his team chase down a target of 210 with more than four overs to spare against in-form Gujarat Titans (GT).
Suryavanshi smashed seven fours and 11 maximums during his middle-order stint and became the youngest centurion in the history of T20 cricket (where data is available). What’s more, this was Suryavanshi’s only third innings in the IPL.
“Witnessed this carnage of an innings by this youngster. Absolutely insane,” wrote Suryakumar on ‘X’. Meanwhile, Rohit called Suryavanshi’s knock “class”.
Suryavanshi broke Yusuf Pathan’s record (37 balls) to become the fastest Indian centurion in the IPL.
“Many congratulations to young #VaibhavSuryavanshi for breaking my record of the fastest @IPL hundred by an Indian! Even more special to see it happen while playing for @rajasthanroyals, just like I did. There’s truly something magical about this franchise for youngsters. Long way to go, champ,” wrote Pathan on ‘X’.
In just three innings, Suryavanshi has already hit 16 sixes and has scored 151 runs at an insane strike rate of 215.72.
