India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav marked his return to training for the first time since undergoing a sports hernia surgery on August 5 (Tuesday). The 34-year-old flew to Germany to have his operation, and since then, has been recovering at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Suryakumar returned for the first time at the nets, as the BCCI is set to gradually increase his workload ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which starts on September 9. Given that India don’t have any tour before the Asia Cup, it gives the Mumbai Indians batter plenty of time to recover from the injury.
India were slated to play Bangladesh in August 2025, but that tour was postponed to 2026, with concerns over players’ security. It isn’t Suryakumar’s first hernia operation, after the Mumbaikar had undergone a similar surgery back in 2024.
Despite MI only reaching the playoffs, Suryakumar won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award after he scored 717 runs in IPL 2025, averaging a staggering 65.18, including crossing the 25-run mark in all 16 games.
