Yashasvi Jaiswal Quits Mumbai To Captain Goa In Next Domestic Season

The player will follow in the footsteps of Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, cricketers who played for Mumbai and then switched their allegiance to Goa.

It seems that all is not well between Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Indian Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal as the latter sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to join Goa from the next domestic season onwards. According to the media reports, he is sure to be made captain of the Goa team.

Goa, who won the Plate Group competition in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, will be eligible to play in the elite group against all the big names of Indian domestic cricket in the 2025-26 season.

The reason mentioned in Jaiswal's email to MCA is personal. However, it is believed that since Jaiswal did not take part in the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Mumbai and Vidarbha, citing knee pain, a tiff seems to have started between the player and the association.

However, neither of them has confirmed this. Jaiswal was named in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but was later replaced by Varun Chakaravarthy and put on the non-travelling reserved list.

Due to this, Jaiswal was drafted into Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji semi-final in Nagpur. But the 23-year-old, who had already played in the Ranji match against Jammu and Kashmir, which Mumbai had lost, decided to opt out of the semi-final.

“He has sought a NOC from us and has cited the reason for his move to Goa as personal,” Indian Express quoted a source in the MCA as saying.

Jaiswal, who had a more than satisfactory Australia tour, scoring 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44, will follow in the footsteps of Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, players who played for Mumbai and then switched their allegiance to Goa.
