The Indian women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, have been fined 5% of their match fee after they were found guilty of being one over behind the required over rate in the first ODI of the Women's Tri-Nation ODI series against Sri Lanka.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with over-rate penalties, teams are penalised 5% of their match fee for every over that they are unable to complete within the allotted time period.
The sanction was imposed by Vanessa de Silva for the ICC International Panel of Match Referees and Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur accepted responsibility for the offence and agreed to the sanctions. That’s why there was no formal hearing held to deal with the offence.
The charge was registered by on-field umpires Anna Harris and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Lyndon Hannibal and fourth umpire Dedunu de Silva.
Earlier, Sri Lanka, opting to bat first in the first ODI, managed 147 runs in 38.1 overs. Hasini Perera top-scored with 30, while Sneh Rana led India's bowling attack, claiming three wickets for 30 runs. Nallapureddy Charani and Deepti Sharma contributed with two wickets apiece.
In response, India’s openers laid a solid foundation. Smriti Mandhana scored a quick 43, with Pratika Rawal continuing her impressive run of form with yet another half-century. Her innings, alongside the support from Harleen Deol, who scored an unbeaten 48, ensured India reached 149 for 1 in just 29.4 overs.
