India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and senior BCCI officials are scheduled to meet in Mumbai on August 19 (Tuesday) to finalise India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. However, the announcement has been delayed at least by a few hours due to heavy rain in the city.
“The selection meeting is delayed. @BCCI waiting for Secy Devajit Saikia and few selectors to land in Mumbai. Flight operations have been hit in the last 24 hours due to heavy rain. Agarkar, SKY only ones in Mumbai,” Arani Basu reported for the Times of India.
Agarkar and Suryakumar were also scheduled to attend a press conference at 1 PM, but that has now been postponed, with no official word yet on the revised timing.
As for the squad, most spots are settled. Either Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to be named as the back-up opener. In the pace unit, one of Prasidh Krishna or Harshit Rana will join Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
The Indian women’s squad for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is also set to be announced today, but that too appears to be delayed due to the weather conditions.
