India batsman Shubman Gill has recovered from his injury and is set to be available for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which will resume from September 19 in the UAE.
Gill had returned to India from England after an injury to his shin, which had ruled him out for the five-match series. Having spent a week at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Gill is believed to have recovered and will fly out to the UAE soon.
"Gill is in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has recovered from his shin pain. He will be departing for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) soon for the IPL. He has been at the NCA for a week now," a source, aware of the development, told IANS.
Gill had developed some pain on his left shin after the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand in Southampton. In his absence, KL Rahul has taken his spot at the top of the order. He has scored a fifty and a century in the series against England already.
"Opening batsman Shubman Gill sustained a developing stress reaction on his left lower leg (shin) during the World Test Championship final. This was confirmed via an MRI scan. He is ruled out of the tour and has returned back to India," the statement from BCCI had said last month.
Gill did not have a particularly good outing in the first half of the IPL 2021. He managed just 132 from seven innings for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at a strike-rate of 117.85.
KKR currently lie in seventh position with just four points from seven matches so far.
