Rishabh Pant will be starting the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the captain for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after the team broke the bank in the auction, signing Pant for a whopping 27 crore, which is the biggest payday of a player has earned in the history of IPL.
In LSG's new setup, he will have three players with whom he might be most familiar and will make sure to get the most out of them.
Mitchell Marsh has been playing the IPL since 2010. The Australian all-rounder never found himself comfortable at one franchise as much he found playing under Pant for Delhi Capitals (DC) between 2022-24 season.
He was given a permanent slot at No.3, which he utilised and played well. He scored 440 runs in 21 innings with three fifties. He even stepped up with the ball taking 17 wickets in 15 innings striking at 14.2.
With the success he found under Pant’s captaincy, Marsh would also be more comfortable adjusting to the new team atmosphere in the upcoming season.
Avesh Khan returns to the LSG side after getting traded to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the 2024 season. During his time in the 2022-23 IPL for LSG, he picked up 26 wickets in 22 innings, striking once every 17.7 deliveries.
Avesh Khan and Rishabh Pant go long back to their U19 days, as both players were a part of the 2016 edition of the ICC U19 World Cup. He had his breakout season under in IPL in 2021, where he took 24 wickets in 16 innings, which was under Pant’s captaincy.
Being the most experienced bowler in the LSG set-up, we can expect Avesh to lead LSG next season.
Ayush Badoni was one of the five players retained by the Lucknow franchise. The team has huge confidence in him as the 25-year-old has been given the opportunity over the last three seasons where he has scored 634 runs in 35 innings with four fifties.
During the three seasons, Badoni, who also plays with Pant in domestic cricket at Delhi, was pushed around in the batting order, sometimes batting at No.3 and sometimes batting at No.7 as a finisher. He has done well at three in the last calendar year scoring 655 at a strike rate of 208 in 11 innings across Delhi Premier League (DPL) and DY Patil Cup.
