After BCCI snub, Abhishek Nayar returns To Strengthen KKR's Backroom Staff
Nayar was part of KKR's coaching team when they lifted the title last season
Abhishek Nayar has returned to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and will join head coach Chandrakant Pandit as the team's support staff for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, according to a report on Cricbuzz. This follows reports of his departure from the Indian team's dressing room after the BCCI decided not to renew his contract.
However, the BCCI is yet to formally announce his departure. "Abhishek Nayar has rejoined our support staff. He is likely to be at training at Eden today," a franchise statement said on April 19 (Saturday).
Nayar, who served as Gautam Gambhir's deputy with Team India, is believed to have been let go of by the BCCI along with fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning trainer Soham Desai.
According to Cricbuzz, a senior BCCI official called the three members to inform them that their contracts would not be renewed as part of the board's process of trimming down the size of the support staff.
Nayar worked with Gambhir and Pandit in IPL 2024, where KKR lifted their first title in a decade.
