Reports suggested that Bedi would have made his IPL debut in Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s previous fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but was sidelined with a ligament tear in his left ankle.
Urvil becomes CSK’s second mid-season replacement. Earlier, Ayush Mhatre was brought in as a replacement for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out because of an elbow injury.
Urvil has featured in 47 T20s and scored 1,162 runs at an average of 26.40 and a strike rate of 170.38. The 26-year-old was super impressive in the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, smashing 315 runs in six innings at an average of 78.75 and a strike rate of 229.92.
He hit the most number of sixes in the competition - 29. Urvil also has a 28-ball century - the joint second-fastest in 20-over format.
Urvil was part of the Gujarat Titans' (GT) set-up in 2023 but didn't get a single game.
CSK have three more games remaining in the IPL 2025 but are already out of the race for the playoffs.
