IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi SUSPENDED After Ugly Send-Off To Abhishek Sharma
Not for the first time, Rathi has been fined by the BCCI for his ‘notebook celebration’
Yet again, Digvesh Singh Rathi is in the news, and not for the first time, for all the wrong reasons. The BCCI has fined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct, with a 50% fine, on May 20 (Tuesday), and will be suspended for their next clash against Gujarat Titans, on May 22 (Thursday).
The incident occurred during LSG's loss against SRH, where the mystery spinner was seen verbally sending off Abhishek Sharma before doing his 'notebook celebration', which sparked a tiff between the two. Eventually, the umpires also were involved as they had to separate the duo, in a nasty incident.
It was Rathi’s third Level 1 offence, and the mystery spinner has already accumulated two demerit points after his three demerit points that he accumulated earlier this IPL season. With five demerit points, the spinner will now be suspended for LSG’s clash against GT in Ahmedabad.
“As he now has Five Demerit Points this season - which result in a one-game suspension - Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG’s next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad,” IPL’s press release said.
SRH’s Abhishek Sharma, too, has been fined 25% of his match fees for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Since it was Sharma’s first such instance, he has been given one demerit point.
