MS Dhoni Quashes Retirement Rumours: 'I Take It One Year At A Time'
The former CSK skipper has been under the pump of late due to his underwhelming performances with the bat
MS Dhoni has quashed retirement rumours, stating that he will take it one year at a time. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper says that he will take it one year at a time, which means that he will play on at least till the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
There were rumours of Dhoni's possible retirement as his parents were in attendance for the first time at Chepauk, as CSK lost to Delhi Capitals (DC) by 25 runs on April 5 (Saturday). "No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL," Dhoni said when asked if was retiring any time soon on a podcast with Raj Shamani.
"I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding. It is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that."
Even head coach Stephen Fleming said he has no idea about Dhoni's retirement and is enjoying working with him at the moment. "I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I don't even ask [about his future] these days," he said after the match against DC.
CSK, who have lost three in a row, will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 8 (Tuesday) in Mullanpur.
