India’s swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is all but confirmed to captain Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, reported ESPNCricinfo. The Super Giants paid a whooping INR 27 crore to acquire the services of Pant in the IPL 2025 auction.
This is the second franchise Pant will captain in the IPL. The left-handed batter joined Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2016 and was handed over the captaincy in 2021. Overall, Pant has a leadership experience of 48 T20s each. The 27-year-old has also led India in five T20Is.
It was KL Rahul who captained LSG in the first three seasons, taking them to the playoffs on a couple of occasions. Rahul has now shifted his base to Delhi after LSG didn’t retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Pant has an impressive record in the IPL, having slammed 3284 runs in 110 innings at an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of almost 150. The left-hander has one century and 18 fifties to his name.
At LSG, Pant will have the likes of David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, who all have enough captaincy experience both at the international level and in franchise cricket.
