Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Ajinkya Rahane walked off the field in the previous game after he suffered a hand injury in the clash against Delhi Capitals (DC). After that, he walked off the field, and Sunil Narine led the side to victory in his absence.
Providing an update, all-rounder Rovman Powell says that the KKR skipper is making steady progress.
"He has shown progressive improvement over the last few days. That is good sign going into tomorrow. It's important for us to have him — he's our captain, he's been one of our batters who have been a shining light throughout the competition," Powell said ahead of KKR's clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
With just one win in their last four games, KKR find themselves seventh on the IPL 2025 points table with nine points. However, Powell is looking at the positive side of things and says that his side has their destiny in their own hands as far as playoffs qualification is concerned.
"It's a position that we did not want to find ourselves in at the start of the competition, but once our destiny is still in our own hands, and it's a good place to be," Powell said.
"We can't look on the realistic picture at the end. We have to look at it one game at a time. And our opponent for the next one is Rajasthan Royals, so we have to try our best against them."
Powell believes that it is duty of the experienced overseas players as himself to guide KKR during these tough times.
"For us as overseas guys who have played more cricket around the world, who have been in these positions a lot more, it's important for us to guide them and show them that it's still normal cricket," Powell said.
"It's an exciting batting unit. We scored 200 on a few occasions, and a lot of our batters haven't done what they want to do. So it's just for us, each and every game to keep on getting better," he added.
Powell is yet to make an impact with the bat his season, having scored just five in his only innings. A loss in the next game could prove to be tough for Powell and KKR to make it through to the next round.
