Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered their first loss of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, going down to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets in Hyderabad on March 27 (Thursday). Over the past, the Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma partnership has been crucial in setting up victories for SRH. However, the duo put on just 15 off 13 against LSG.
Are SRH overly dependent on the duo? Wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen certainly does not think so.
"Not at all. If we look at our batting lineup, we are destructive till batter No.8. We don't need Travis and Abhishek to come off every time. We're good enough to score without them as well," Klaasen said at the post-match press conference.
"They put teams under pressure when they come off and makes our jobs easier. You will never have a season where both of them will score more than 1000 runs. It's the way we play, a bit on the riskier side. But no. We have big enough players to know that we need to do it by ourselves as well."
SRH got to just 190 in the end, and Klaasen feels that they were at least 20-30 runs short. “We didn’t score enough runs. I think about 210-200 was a par score. But it is part of the game,” Klaasen said.
“Everyone is playing good cricket, especially on a wicket like this. You can put anybody in attack under the pump. So, they bowled well in the middle as well, so credit needs to go to them as well."
“They picked up early wickets that stopped a little bit of the momentum. It was difficult to keep on going with the momentum. This wicket is a good wicket, so it wasn’t enough.
"We just kept on losing wickets at the wrong times. It’s something that we will take note of and make sure that it doesn’t happen too often."
SRH will next be in action against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 30 (Sunday) in Visakhapatnam.
