In an unfortunate turn of events, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has been ruled out of the Quarter-final tie in the Duleep Trophy against the North East Zone in Bengaluru due to a groin injury, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo. In his absence, Rajat Patidar, who was named vice-captain for the tournament, is leading the side.
In Jurel's absence, Aryan Juyal will deputise for him behind the wickets. Opening the batting, Juyal retired hurt for 60.
This is a great opportunity for Patidar, who led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year, to show off his captaincy credentials in the longer format and also stay in the reckoning for a place in the Indian Test squad for the home series against West Indies and South Africa.
Patidar has played three Tests for India, in which he managed just 63 runs at 10.50. The 32-year-old had a decent season with Madhya Pradesh in the recent Ranji Trophy season, where he scored 529 runs at 48.09, which included a century and two fifties in seven matches.
In the other match, North Zone captain Shubman Gill also has missed out due to illness, and Ankit Kumar is leading the side as a result, while Services batter Shubham Rohilla has replaced him in the squad.
