Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Irfan Pathan’s worries don't seem to be ending anytime soon, as, after being removed from Star Sports’ commentary panel for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, he has now been sidelined from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as well.
As reported in the media, the reasons are his biased attitude towards certain players while being critical of their play and approach.
“Pathan had a fallout with a couple of players a few years ago. Since then, he has not shied away from referring to them aggressively. The matter was raised because other junior players got caught in the crossfire,” The Times of India (TOI) quoted a source close to the development as saying.
“He has been accused of taking potshots at them on social media platforms even if he didn’t name them,” the source added.
Pathan was heavily critical of Virat Kohli during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, where he said that anyone who batted for five years can easily have the average in the 30s, which Virat has had in Tests since 2020.
