England spinner Jack Leach has been withdrawn from the first Test at Lord's against New Zealand after suffering with concussion symptoms due to a fall in the outfield. Lancashire legspinner Matt Parkinson is on his way from Manchester and will join the playing XI as the concussion replacement.
Leach suffered an injury during the sixth over of first innings as he tried to save a boundary at deep backward point. The 30-year old landed awkwardly and seemed to have hurt his neck region.
New Zealand's medical team arrived first on the scene and examined Leach before he left the field after several minutes. ECB medical team later announced that the left-arm spinner has been withdrawn from the Test.
"Jack Leach has symptoms of concussion following his head injury whilst fielding. As per concussion guidelines, he has been withdrawn from this Test," the ECB said in a statement.
After electing to bat first, New Zealand were reduced to 39/6 by lunch on Day 1 as medium pacer Matthew Potts claimed 3-8.
