Who are the players to have scored 1000+ runs & take 100+ wickets in IPL?
Here are the five players who have stepped for their team in both batting and bowling in IPL
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has built itself to be the most decorated competition in cricket. A success season can earn a player a chance to represent his country. A century in IPL will make a superstar. A five-wicket haul or a hat trick in IPL will make you a household name. So, anything good achieved in IPL is rewarded in the grandest way possible.
Over the years, the tournament has seen batters pile up a mountain of runs, which gets higher and higher as the season goes on. The bowlers, too, have bowled some epic spells and taken a truckload of wickets. But the all-rounders have done both of these and have been match-winners.
These five players are among the elite list of the only players to score 1000+ runs with the bat and take 100+ wickets with the ball in the greatest cricket competition.
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja is easily the most well-rounded cricketer India has ever produced. A major portion of his success needs to be credited to the IPL, as the Saurashtra superstar built his international career by learning in the IPL under cricketing greats like Shane Warne, MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming, and others.
Apart from missing the 2010 season, Ravindra Jadeja has played all the other seasons with him representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2012. He has played 240 games scoring 2959 runs with the bat and has taken 160 wickets with the ball.
His generational fielding skills have also shined, as the 36-year-old has taken 103 catches in the competition, making him ‘The Ultimate All-rounder’ as he is the only player to have 1000+ runs, 100+ wickets, and 100+ catches, fulfilling his 3-dimensional abilities to the fullest.
Andre Russell
Andre Russell was not an instant hit in the IPL. The big Jamaican all-rounder played only seven games for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2012 and 2013.
The change began in the 2014 season as the big West Indian was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for just 60 lakhs. Since then, Russell has played 120 games for KKR, scoring 2426 runs and taking 114 wickets, winning three IPL titles in the process and being the biggest match-winning for the Knight Riders through his blockbuster final overs batting and golden arm wicket-taking ability at any time.
Overall, the 37-year-old superstar has scored 2784 runs and taken 115 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Axar Patel
Axar Patel has grown towards becoming the most improved all-rounder over the 10 years of his IPL career. Starting as the left spinner for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2014, he found most of his success as a bowler, picking 61 wickets across five seasons.
The batting got added to his game after his move to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2019, as he has scored 967 runs, scoring three fifties, and has taken 62 wickets across six seasons.
Overall, he has played 150 games in 10 seasons, scoring 1653 runs and taking 123 wickets, making him the most successful Indian all-rounder after Ravindra Jadeja.
Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo can be considered the most celebrated all-rounder in Indian Premier League (IPL) as he West Indian legend dominated with both bat and ball across 15 seasons of the IPL.
In his initial three seasons for the Mumbai Indians (MI), he found more success with the bat than the ball, picking only 26 wickets in three seasons and scoring 467 runs.
He came into his groove only after his move to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for whom he played 116 games and picked 140 wickets. He became the first player to win the ‘Purple Cap’ twice as he was the highest wicket-taker in the 2013 and 2015 editions.
With the bat, he scored 1004 runs, playing crucial cameos, coming in at #7 or #8 position with two fifties. He finished his IPL career, scoring 1560 runs and taking 183 wickets.
Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine has been the ‘most consistent performer’ as the West Indian all-rounder has taken 15+ wickets almost every season. He has lived up to his ‘mystery spinner’ role, as he is considered to be the toughest bowler to face, even after 12 years in the IPL.
Becoming Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) X-factor, the 37-year-old has taken 180 wickets at a terrific strike rate of 22.6.
His excellence with the bat started in the 2017 season, when he was made a ‘pinch hitter’ opener along with Chris Lynn. He took on the bowlers from the first over, scrapping up maximum runs in the powerplay.
He had his most successful season with the bat in IPL 2024, scoring 488 runs in 14 innings at an SR of 181, with three fifties and a hundred. This played a key role in KKR's winning their third IPL title and earning Narine his record second “Most Valuable Player” award in IPL.
