Jimmy Peirson will join the Australian squad after the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston as a temporary replacement for Josh Inglis, the Cricket Australia announced on Friday (May 26).
Inglis will be returning home to Perth for the birth of his first child but will join the Australian set-up later in the series. Alex Carey is still the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, with Inglis being the back-up.
Peirson, who is yet to make his debut for Australia, has scored 3024 runs in 65 first-class encounters at an average of 34.75.
The Queensland wicketkeeper-batter averaged less than 30 over his first 35 first-class games but has got that number up to 42.56 in his last 30 matches.
The first Test of the five-match series starts in Birmingham on June 16. Before that, Australia will take on India in the World Test Championship final at the Oval from June 7.
