History unfolded on January 6 as WWE RAW began a new era, premiering on Netflix. The historic episode featured John Cena's return to the ring, as he officially began his farewell tour by declaring that he was out to win the Royal Rumble.
Now, this might be confusing. 'What's John Cena doing on a Cricket website??????' you might think.
Well, as it turns out, Cena, arguably the most popular wrestler ever in India, does have a connection with cricket. Indian cricket, to be specific.
How? Well, known for his bizarre tendency to post absolutely random images on Instagram, Cena has also posted about Indian Cricket on his account in the past. Many Indian greats, including Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, have featured on Cena's posts.
2023 IPL: MS Dhoni's 'you can’t see me'
The latest post from John Cena on Indian cricket was made during the 2023 IPL when he posted two photos of MS Dhoni. In one image, he was behind the wickets in a helmet, and in the other, he was seen with his gloves in front of his face in what resembled the iconic John Cena move of ‘You can’t see me’.
The photo was from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) encounter on May 6 2023 at the former’s home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai. CSK won by 6 wickets.
2021 WTC Final: Showing support for Kohli and India?
Back in 2021, when India and New Zealand were set to play the final of the first-ever edition of the World Test Championship (WTC) final in Southampton, England, John Cena posted a photo of Virat Kohli with the Indian flag in the background. It was considered as him supporting the Indian team for the all-important summit clash.
The post was made on June 12, nearly one week away from the start of the final on June 18. India eventually lost the game.
2019 ODI World Cup: That’s when the Kohli love started
Cena’s love affair with Indian cricket, though, started in 2019. During the ODI World Cup in England, he posted a photo of Kohli shaking hands with the opposition members after India had beaten Sri Lanka in a league-stage clash at Headingley in Leeds.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 34 off 41 balls as India chased down 265 with 6.3 overs to spare and seven wickets intact.
