Josh Hazlewood, David Warner doubtful for 2nd Ashes Test

The Australian duo have reportedly flown home to Sydney as a result

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has reportedly been ruled out of the second Ashes Test on Adelaide, starting December 16 and as a result, has flown back home. Opening batter David Warner's participation too is in doubt.

According to FoxSports, Hazlewood has suffered  low-grade side strain and has flown home from Brisbane to Sydney along with David Warner.

Jhye Richardson is set to be Hazlewood's replacement, which would mean that he would play just his third Test, his first after debuting against Sri Lanka in 2019. He has picked up six wickets from two matches so far.

However, Michael Neser, who picked up seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings against the Lions could also be in contention. Warner is believed to have injured his ribs during the first innings of the Gabba Test, in which he scored 94. He did not bat in the second innings, in which Australia needed just 20 to win.

Queensland opening batter Bryce Street, who scored 119 for Australia A against England Lions, could be in line to replace Warner. Australia also have the option of calling up Usman Khawaja, if needed.

Australia captain Pat Cummins revealed Hazlewood was a little sore during the second innings at the Gabba. “Yeah he was a little bit sore yesterday, so we just tried to get him through,” Cummins told Fox Cricket.
