New Zealand batting great Kane Williamson is set to link up with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2026 - not as a player, but as their new strategic advisor, according to a report by RevSportz.
LSG have also added Carl Crowe to their support staff as spin bowling coach. The former England spinner previously worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Earlier this year, the franchise brought in former India bowling coach Bharat Arun as their head of bowling.
Williamson, who is on a casual contract with New Zealand Cricket, remains active across formats. The 35-year-old last featured in T20Is and Tests for the Black Caps in 2024, and his most recent ODI appearance came in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
He was last seen in action during The Hundred 2025, turning out for London Spirit. It was a modest campaign by his standards - 205 runs in eight innings at an average of 25.50 and a strike rate of 129.93.
In the IPL, Williamson has previously represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT), amassing 2,128 runs in 79 matches at an average of 35.46 and a strike rate of 125.61. His last IPL outing came in 2024.
The Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025, failed to make the playoffs and finished seventh on the points table. The addition of Williamson in a strategic role signals a fresh tactical direction for the franchise heading into the 2026 season.
