South Africa batter Keegan Petersen beat Under-19 star Dewald Brevis and Bangladesh's Ebadot Hossein to the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for January. England skipper Heather Knight pipped Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and West Indies' Deandra Dottin for the Women's Player of the Month award.
Petersen was South Africa's best batter in the three Tests against India with 276 runs, including two fifties in the final Test, as the Proteas came back from 0-1 down to clinch the series 2-1.
"With the hype of the series and the high expectation, the composure he showed while batting in a pivotal No.3 position was simply staggering," former Proteas batter and member of the voting panel JP Duminy said.
Though, England Women returned winless from the multi-format Ashes series in Australia, Knight was the best player on either in the one-off Test at Canberra as she helped her side draw the match with gritty knocks of 168 not out and 48.
"168 is the highest Test score by any female English batter against Australia in Australia," former India pacer Irfan Pathan, member of the voting panel, said.
"It is also the second-highest score in women's Tests in Australia. Her innings is made even more remarkable given its importance in securing the draw for England in the only Test."
