Keshav Maharaj Ruled Out Of Second Test vs Zimbabwe, Wiaan Mulder To Lead South Africa

Meanwhile, Senuran Muthusamy has been named as Maharaj’s replacement

South Africa’s stand-in skipper Keshav Maharaj has been ruled out of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, starting on July 6 (Sunday), due to a left groin strain.

Wiaan Mulder will captain South Africa in the second Test, with Senuran Muthusamy being named as Maharaj’s replacement.

Maharaj “sustained the injury while batting on day three of the first Test on Monday. He will return home for further assessment to determine the extent of the injury,” Cricket South Africa stated in the press release.

“Lungi Ngidi, who was set to join the squad, has been released to give the seamers who impressed in the first Test another opportunity to build on their performances.”

The Proteas won the first Test by 328 runs, with debutants Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis impressing with the bat.

Corbin Bosch scored a century and also picked up a five-wicket haul, while Mulder slammed 147 in South Africa’s second innings.
