In Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Khaleel Ahmed went on a celebrappeal after hitting Virat Kohli right in front of the leg stump, even convinced MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad to take a review after being turned down by the on-field umpire, only to find out the ball had pitched outside leg.
It was the first ball of the third over. Kohli tried to flick Khaleel’s full-length delivery towards the square-leg region but missed the ball completely. The ball was moving away and that didn’t allow Kohli to get any bat to it. It was always going to hit the leg stump but the question was if it had pitched on the stumps’ line.
Khaleel was confident and after a bit of discussion with MSD, who is known for his accuracy with these DRS calls, managed to convince Dhoni to ask Gaikwad to go for the review. Later in the replays, it was clearly visible that the ball had pitched outside leg.
Chennai bought Khaleel for INR 4.8 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. In the first game against Mumbai Indians (MI), the left-arm seamer finished with stunning figures of 3/29 in four overs. Khaleel took two wickets with the new ball against MI, but went wicketless in the two overs he bowled in the powerplay against RCB.
