KKR Duo Sizzle As Guyana Amazon Warriors Win Global Super League 2025
Guyana beat defending champions Rangpur Riders to clinch the title
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) duo Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Moeen Ali were at their best on July 18 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana as Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) beat defending champions Rangpur Riders to be crowned champions of the 2025 edition of the Global Super League (GSL).
Winning the toss and batting first, Guyana posted 196/4 thanks to Gurbaz (66 off 38), Johnson Charles (67 off 48 retired out) and a cameo from RCB’s Romario Shepherd, who hammered 28 runs off just 9 balls. That total proved to be more than enough as GAW won by 32 runs, bowling out Rangpur for 164.
With the ball, Dwaine Pretorius took 3/37 but it was Moeen Ali’s economical spell of 1/13 that put the choke on the Riders. Moeen, taking the new ball, also took the huge wicket of Kyle Mayers, pretty much setting up victory for Guyana through his opening spell.
It was a special win for GAW as it came in front of their home fans at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. For Rangpur, meanwhile, it was still a tournament to be proud of, considering they’ve now made two finals in as many editions of the competition.
For Guyana, the trophy was lifted by Imran Tahir, who is remarkably still going strong at the age of 46.
