Kohli fined as RCB maintain slow over-rate in loss against CSK

This was Bangalore's first over-rate related offence under IPL's Code of Conduct

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has been fined INR 12 lakh as his side maintained a slow over-rate during their 69-run loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 25).

This was the team's first offence under IPL's Code of Conduct, however,  if the teams were to repeat this again during the tournament, the captain will be docked INR 24 lakh and the rest of the team will be slapped with an INR 6 lakh fine or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser.

For the third offence, the captain will not just pay a hefty fine of INR 30 lakh, but he will also be banned for a match while the rest of his team will have to pay up INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever is lesser.

The loss against CSK was RCB's first this season. They now have eight points from five matches - level with CSK and Delhi Capitals (DC). The team from Bangalore had made their best-ever start in the IPL, winning the first four matches, but could not make it five in five.  The match turned on its head when Harshal Patel conceded 37 runs from the final over to take CSK past 190. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of RCB, whose batsmen, put in a poor show for the first time this season and were restricted to just 122 for 9.

"A  performance like this, it is good to get this out early on in the tournament," the RCB captain said after the match.

RCB next play DC in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (April 27).
